How to Play Block Bloom: Rules, Scoring & Expert Strategy
Block Bloom is a free block puzzle game played on an 8×8 grid. This guide covers the rules, exactly how scoring works, and the strategies strong players use to reach 10,000+ points.
The rules in 30 seconds
- You get three blocks at a time in the tray under the board.
- Drag each block onto empty squares. Blocks can’t be rotated — plan around their shape.
- When a row or column is completely filled, it clears and you score.
- When all three blocks are placed, you get three new ones.
- If none of your remaining blocks fit anywhere, the game is over. You can revive once per game.
Scoring explained
- Placing a block: 1 point per square.
- Line clears: 1 line = 80, 2 lines = 240, 3 lines = 480, 4 lines = 800. Clearing several lines in one move is worth far more than clearing them one by one.
- Combo: every move that clears raises your combo by one. Each step adds +50% to line points. A combo survives two non-clearing moves.
- Flowers: blooming a bud gives +50 points and petals.
- Perfect clear: empty the whole board for a +1,000 bonus.
Game modes
Classic
Endless play. Blocks get slightly harder (more long lines and big squares) as your score climbs past 1,500 and 6,000.
Daily Challenge
A new puzzle every day at midnight. Everyone gets the same starting board and the same sequence of blocks for 15 rounds, so scores are directly comparable. Play every day to grow your streak and earn bonus petals.
Journey
Level-based play with stone obstacles. Score levels ask you to reach a target; 🌸 levels ask you to bloom every flower. Finish in fewer moves to earn three stars.
12 strategies to score higher
1. Build from the edges in
Fill the outer rows and columns first. The centre is where large blocks need room.
2. Always keep a 3×3 hole
The 3×3 square is the most common game-ender. Keep at least one open 3×3 area at all times.
3. Respect the 5-long line
Likewise, keep one row and one column with five or more open squares in a straight line.
4. Check all three blocks before you move
Ask: “after this placement, do the other two still fit?” This single habit prevents most game overs.
5. Place the awkward block first
S, Z and big L blocks are hardest to fit. Place them while you still have space; save small blocks for the end.
6. Set up crossing lines
A row and column that meet at one empty corner can be cleared together with one block for 240+ points.
7. Avoid single isolated holes
One-square gaps can only be filled by the single-square block, which is rare. Don’t create them.
8. Use your combo buffer
You have two “free” moves before a combo resets. Use them to prepare the next clear rather than panic-placing.
9. Chase multi-line clears
Two lines at once is worth 3× a single line; three lines is 6×. Patience pays.
10. Prioritise bud lines
Lines that contain a flower bud are worth an extra 50 points each and give petals.
11. In Journey, clear stones early
Stones are permanent until cleared. Clear the lines they sit on early to open up the board.
12. Use the revive smartly
A revive clears the 4×4 centre. Save petals for revives in runs where you’re close to your best.
